Transitional Employment Placements
An essential part of the project is the Transitional Employment Placements, which give people an opportunity to recover confidence, acquire new skills and address barriers to their career progress.
Each TE placement runs for six to nine months. These jobs are generally entry level jobs and are all part time. They are no more than 16 hours per week to avoid members losing eligibility for current benefits.
Staff and other members from Horizon House work with the member on the job and train them while they work. They work with the member on each shift until the member is confident that he or she knows the job sufficiently to do it on their own.
Horizon House offers the employer 100% cover if the member cannot work a shift for any reason. This is a very attractive proposition for employers.
