What is Horizon House and what can Horizon House do for you?

Horizon House is a membership-based organisation that supports people in their recovery from mental-illness, inclusion in the community and return to employment.

Membership offers mutual support from others with similar experiences, assistance in pursuing career and other goals, and co-ordination of employment support, benefits, and mental health services.

The membership and the small staff work together to provide a range of services to members, including:

  • Help in getting back to work and pursuing a career
  • Advocacy in accessing benefits and services
  • Opening opportunities in education and leisure
  • Contacting members in need of support
  • Providing a welcoming community of people with some shared experiences

The membership decides issues at all levels, from the hiring of staff, to the allocation of the budget, to the type of employment support available.

Examples of work undertaken by members include:

  • Running the reception desk
  • Practical help to other members at their Transitional Employment Placements
  • Data entry for updating statistics on member employment and education
  • Cooking and shopping
  • Visiting other members who are isolated
  • Writing for and publishing the Horizon House newsletter
  • Assisting other members to pursue their careers

Membership is free and without time limits.

Horizon House is part of the worldwide Clubhouse movement.
